Check three records, not just the debit alert
Open your bank statement, the payment confirmation and the sportsbook transaction history side by side. Write down the amount, date, time and reference shown in each. If two references differ, keep both. Ask support to explain how the bank payment maps to the deposit request.
Paystack's verification documentation gives merchants a process using the payment reference and distinguishes the API response from the actual transaction status. Ask the sportsbook to check that reference, not simply whether your balance changed. Do not treat the debit alert alone as confirmation of receipt by the sportsbook.
Identify which problem you have
- Failed payment with a debit: Ask the bank or payment provider to trace the debit and check whether a reversal has reached your statement.
- Confirmed payment without a credit: Give the sportsbook the processor confirmation and reference. Ask it to confirm receipt and allocation to your account.
- Pending or unclear status: Request the current payment status and a case number. Do not treat an unclear status as permission to pay again.
For a failed transaction with a debit, Paystack's guidance says the bank often reverses it after 24 hours, or the next working day if the debit occurred on a non-working day. It tells customers to check the statement, then contact the bank if the reversal has not arrived, in the same failed-payment guidance. Do not apply that timeframe as a refund promise for every deposit method.
Build one clear evidence pack
Use one support thread for the missing transaction. Add new evidence to that thread rather than opening several requests with different descriptions. Keep a copy of the original receipt and the support case number.
- Payment details: Amount, date, time, method, reference and the recipient shown on the receipt.
- Account details: Your sportsbook username or account ID, shared through its verified support channel.
- Status evidence: The bank entry, processor confirmation and sportsbook deposit-history entry.
- Previous contact: The case number, response received and what remains unresolved.
Do not put a PIN, OTP, password, full card number or crypto seed phrase in a chat message. Redact unrelated transactions before sharing a statement. The CBN's complaints guide warns against including PINs or passwords and asks for transaction history and supporting evidence.
Send a trace request, not another deposit
Use the template below with your actual details. Delete any field you cannot confirm. Never add a guessed reference or describe a payment as successful if its status is still unclear.
My bank shows a debit of [amount] on [date and time]. The reference is [reference]. My sportsbook account is [account ID], and its balance has not been credited. The payment status shown is [status]. Please trace this payment, confirm whether you received it and explain the next action. Please keep this under case [case number].
If the processor reports success, send that confirmation to the sportsbook. If it reports failure, ask the bank about the reversal. If the two disagree, keep both written responses and ask each party to reconcile the same reference.
Keep bank escalation separate from sportsbook support
The CBN's general complaint process says to complain to the bank first and allow up to two weeks before escalating an unresolved bank complaint. Treat that as a bank-escalation process, not a deposit-credit deadline. Keep the question about your betting balance with the sportsbook.
For identity or account restrictions, use our KYC troubleshooting guide. For an outgoing payment rather than a deposit, read withdrawal pending. The payment methods hub explains the different payment routes.
Frequently asked questions
Should I pay again when my betting deposit is missing?
Do not make a duplicate payment to resolve an unclear first transaction. Check its status and ask support to trace the original reference.
Does Paystack's 24-hour guidance apply to every betting deposit?
No. It describes Paystack's failed-transaction-with-debit case, with a next-working-day qualification. Confirm the method and transaction status before applying it.
Who should I contact about a missing deposit?
Ask the bank or processor to trace the payment leg and the sportsbook to check receipt and account allocation. Keep both replies under the same transaction reference.
